In 1910, secretary to the Russian mission to the Netherlands, Pavel Konstantinovich Poustoshkin, acquired “Andante” of the “Sonata of the Pyramids” from an exhibition of M. K. Čiurlionis' work hosted by the Apollon Journal. In 1913, Poustoshkin took the painting along to the Hague.

In 1928, the director of the Čiurlionis Gallery, Paulius Galaunė, received a letter from first secretary J. Urbšys informing him that during his stay at the Hague, artist M. Dobužinskis met Poustoshkin and learned that the man had acquired “Andante” of the “Sonata of the Pyramids”. Having found himself in unfortunate financial circumstances, Poustoshkin was willing to sell the painting for 200 dollars. Having seen the painting himself, M. Dobužinskis confirmed its authenticity.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education negotiated with the owner about the purchase of the painting, but to no avail – the price was too high and the painting could not be acquired. The efforts of the museum workers to find the painting in the museums of Holland also proved fruitless.

In 2000, the journal Lithuania in the World published an article by museum employees Nijolė Adomavičienė and Vaiva Kavaliauskaitė-Laukaitienė entitled “Čiurlionis, still unknown”, which mentioned several missing pieces of M. K. Čiurlionis' work.

Seven years later, P. Poustoshkin's grandson, who lived in the Hague, reacted to the article and confirmed that the painting purchased by his grandfather was in his possession. In his letter, the Dutch citizen of Russian origin wrote: “I immediately understood what painting was being described in the article. It was the strangest work of art in my grandfather's house. It is not in my taste, but for some reason the idea of selling it never even crossed my mind”. After a long correspondence with P. Poustoshkin and with the help of FlyLAL airlines as well as the employees of the Lithuanian embassy in Netherlands, Čiurlionis' painting was successfully delivered to the M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art.
