The earliest portrayal of Jehovah in Čiurlionis' work can be found on a postcard titled “Jehovah” by the artist himself and sent to his brother Povilas on 3 (16) October 1903.

The only surviving sketch of the “Jehovah” stained-glass triptych illustrates a vast ocean and a mountain with a moustached face of God wearing a hood. The sun rises behind this mountain-God, just like the appearance of God on Mount Sinai on an early morning as described in Scripture. Čiurlionis perceives him as part of the natural world, in the guise of a mountain, just as ancient Lithuanian pantheists believed that that their gods existed in natural phenomena. Such deification is characteristic of his later work as well.

The perception of mountains as the connection between earth and heaven as well as microcosms and macrocosms is present in almost all cultures.
