This summer, the Čiurlionis family orchard will once again resound with the music of the “60th Summer of Piano Music”! The piano music festival, which continues the tradition of musical sharing initiated by composer and painter M. K. Čiurlionis himself, holds special significance this year—not only because it celebrates its 60th edition, but also as we mark Čiurlionis’ 150th anniversary. The return to the Čiurlionis orchard in Druskininkai thus takes on a deeply meaningful tone.

In the apple orchard of the Čiurlionis House-Museum in Druskininkai, audiences will be invited to experience the latest artistic explorations presented by the most renowned Lithuanian pianists of all generations. One of them is Gintaras Januševičius – founder of the summer piano academy Klaipėda Piano Masters, a program unmatched worldwide in its musical vision and diversity of lectures, and the youngest finalist in the history of the Concours Musical International de Montréal.

Gintaras Januševičius rose to international recognition in 2004, when he became the youngest finalist of the Concours Musical International de Montréal. His performance of S. Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux, Op. 39, was praised by renowned pianists such as Jean-Philippe Collard, Kum-Sing Lee, Michel Dalberto, and Benedetto Lupo. His recording of the Études-Tableaux was soon broadcast on radio stations around the world.

He went on to perform in prestigious venues such as the Grand Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Würzburg Residence, Wilfrid Pelletier Hall in Montreal, Madrid Auditorium, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Salle Cortot in Paris, Capitulation Hall in Berlin, and many others. He has appeared as a soloist with more than 30 orchestras, and has performed solo and chamber programs across cities in Lithuania, Germany, and around the world – including New York, Washington, Hamamatsu, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin, Prague, Shenzhen, London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Barcelona, Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Warsaw, Budapest, Dublin, Zurich, and more.

Januševičius has collaborated with composers such as Jörg Widmann, Victoria Poleva, Octavio Vázquez, Derek Woods, and Ashley Hribar. In 2017, he founded the Klaipėda Piano Masters summer academy – an internationally unique program in scope, creativity, and educational approach.

PROGRAMME

Titled “M. K. Čiurlionis and His Time”, the recital will feature piano works by M. K. Čiurlionis, C. Reinecke, J. Brahms, E. Grieg, C. Debussy, and Ch. Koechlin.

"The programme M. K. Čiurlionis and His Time invites listeners on an inspiring journey through the cultural and artistic landscape that shaped the creative genius of Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.

In just a decade of active composition, Čiurlionis traversed a remarkable artistic path, drawing from romanticism, nationalism, impressionism, and symbolism. This recital explores the environment surrounding Čiurlionis by presenting the music of his contemporaries and influences alongside his own profound and inventive works," shares the pianist.
