7 December, 16.30. The Christmas trees will light up in the Laisvės Square of Rietavas and the joyful and magical period of waiting for the holidays will begin.

As 2025 will mark the 150th birthday of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, we will welcome the year dedicated to this occasion during the Rietavas Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. We will listen to the "Fairy Tale of the Kings", which will be followed by a huge group of singing, dancing and acting children from Rietavas, guests from Telšiai, and even one of the main symbols of Čiurlionis' work - the kings, who will light up the Christmas tree in Rietavas. During the concert, fragments of the composer's musical creations will be played, which will be recognised by everyone who has heard Čiurlionis' music at least once, and the kings, reborn in the painting "The Tale of the Kings", will leave no one indifferent.

This festive evening will be like a door that will open to the anticipation of the holidays and the fairy tale that will continue throughout the coming year dedicated to Čiurlionis.

During the tree lighting ceremony, the "Fairy Tale of the Kings" will be performed by performers, dancers and artists from Rietavas Laurynas Ivinskis Gymnasium, Rietavas Culture Centre, Rietavas Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis Art School, and the guests from the Telšiai modern music education school "Conmusica". Christmas songs, motifs from M.K. Čiurlionis' music will be performed, and at the end of the celebration, the trees will be lit by the kings who have been reborn from Čiurlionis' painting "Fairty Tale of the Kings".
