In cooperation with the M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, the exhibition "The Two Elements of M.K. Čiurlionis: the Sea and the Mountains" was opened at the Office of the Government.

M. K. Čiurlionis is a unique Lithuanian artist who combined music and fine arts in his works. The sea and the mountains are his sources of inspiration and have become the leitmotifs of his most outstanding works.

Inspired by the element of water, Čiurlionis composed the symphonic poem "The Sea" at the Leipzig Conservatoire from 1903 onwards, and while attending Jan Kausik's drawing classes and later the Warsaw School of Fine Arts (1904-1906), he composed melodies and harmonized Lithuanian folk songs, thus seeking ways to combine music and art in his painting.

This is evidenced by the reproductions of Čiurlionis' paintings that currently adorn the walls of the Office of the Government: 'Fairy Tale (Castle Tale)' (1909), 'The Altar' (1909), 'Sonata No. 5 (Sonata of the Sea). Allegro' (1908), "Sonata No. 5 (Sonata of the Sea). Andante" (1908), etc.

The exhibition also includes photocopies of photographs taken by Čiurlionis himself from the album Anapa (1905). In 1905, after being separated from his beloved Baltic Sea for some time, the artist was given the opportunity to spend his holidays in the Black Sea resort of Anapa. Here the artist also revealed his photographic skills, bringing back with him a photo album of his own creation.
