We conclude our walk around the lake at one of the iconic landmarks that has become a true symbol of Druskininkai.

After Čiurlionis had already set out into the wider world — yet continued to return to his family home — the landscape of the Druskonis lakeshore was transformed. Around 1905–1909, on the initiative of Adolfas Kiersnovskis, a banker and member of the resort’s joint-stock company, the brick villa „Linksma“, featuring Art Nouveau elements with Neoclassical details, was built. It became one of the most distinctive architectural symbols of its era.

There is historical evidence that M. K. Čiurlionis would come to this villa to teach piano to his childhood friend, the youngest daughter of the villa’s owner, Gražina Kiersnovskytė, and that he would go out to paint nature together with her sister, Zofia Kiersnovskytė.

At first, the building served as a representative residence for the town and the Kiersnovskis family. Until the Second World War it remained in their possession, while in the post-war years the villa changed hands several times and was used for different purposes. In 1996, it became home to the Druskininkai Town Museum, which continues to operate here to this day.
