Would Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911), who was a curious man of his time, have taken advantage of the innovations and achievements of our age? We can assume that he might have... Do Čiurlionis' paintings inspire the modern man with the latest technology? Certainly…

M.K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art has embarked on an experiment and has created a new exhibition using the latest technologies of 3D modeling and Artificial Intelligence, which are currently both highly relevant and highly controversial.

Using technologies never before used in Lithuania, 12 reproductions of M.K. Čiurlionis' paintings have been recreated in 3D format. Using an original technique, the painting was reproduced with maximum authenticity, without allowing a mechanical effect to develop. Artificial intelligence is used for 10-15% of this process, while 85-90% is carried out by graphic reproduction specialists who combine 2 different 3D programmes.

The result is printed with pigment inks on barite photo-transparent paper without altering the authentic color intensity. The pressed product is carefully transferred through a transparent optical film onto an optical plexiglass of the highest transparency. This process enhances the 3D effect of the transparent optical film, giving all surfaces a soft pearlescent surface.

Living and working at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as the world of science made fundamental discoveries and applied them to the creation of new technologies (cinema, cars, airships, the telephone, the telegraph, etc.), and as new directions were formed in the arts, M. K. Čiurlionis work expressed thoughts and themes that moved people over a hundred years ago, and continue to excite us now, as we travel through the new millennium.

The universality of M. K. Čiurlionis' work, the forms of his paintings, which provide peace, harmony, a sense of permanence in the structure of the world, his symbolism, bring the viewer closer to the common human virtues (happiness, friendship, the cyclical nature of the world, the union of nature and humanity), and become a counterbalance to the 21st century's destruction, fear, worry, anxiety, the unknown, and wars... It is no wonder that in these difficult times people are looking for positivity and calm, meditative experiences.
