Džeraldas Bidva, Kornelija Kupšytė, Guoda Gedvilaitė – a Passionate Chamber Music Evening “Forward to the Past”

Long-time concertmaster of the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Džeraldas Bidva performs in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world. He has developed numerous programs and remarkable projects with the renowned violinist Gidon Kremer and frequently performs with various chamber ensembles.

Kornelija Kupšytė, winner of the 2023 Švyturys Klaipėda Future Scholarship and laureate of international competitions, is a charismatic young cellist from Klaipėda. She captivates both music lovers and professionals alike, and no one doubts her talent and potential.

Guoda Gedvilaitė is one of the most prominent Lithuanian pianists. For over 30 years, she has performed across Lithuania and abroad. Her stage partners include not only well-known orchestras and classical musicians, but also actors, dancers, and jazz artists. She currently leads two international music festivals: since 2024, she has been the artistic director of Druskininkai Summer with M.K. Čiurlionis, and in 2023, she founded the Vilnius Town Hall Music Festival “The Sparkling Spark Play”.

“Forward to the Past” is a concert where a chamber ensemble comes together to embody the harmony of time—connecting past and future. The program promises to be passionate and unforgettable, featuring works by Lithuanian composers M. K. Čiurlionis and B. Kutavičius, Italian composers O. Respighi and R. Molinelli, the monumental Piano Trio in E-flat major by Austrian classicist F. Schubert, and a piece by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who celebrates his 80th anniversary this year.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Džeraldas Bidva

A conductor-less orchestra leader who has recorded over 20 CDs, acclaimed worldwide. His recordings have won ICMA, GRAMMY, and ECHO Klassik awards. Notable among them is a 2018 solo recording released by Odradek with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, featuring violin concertos by P. Vasks, A. Šenderovas, and J. Juzeliūnas. In 2021, Ondine released a solo album of E. Balsys’ music, recorded with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas.

A graduate of the M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Paris Conservatory, he is regularly invited as a soloist and chamber ensemble leader to major festivals in Salzburg, Lockenhaus (Austria), Gstaad (Switzerland), Risør (Norway), Kuhmo (Finland), Kronberg (Germany), and more. His stage partners include Gustavo Dudamel, Christoph Eschenbach, Simon Rattle, Martha Argerich, Daniil Trifonov, Mario Brunello, Oleg Maisenberg, and Sergej Krylov.

Kornelija Kupšytė

She actively participates in masterclasses with world-renowned cellists such as David Geringas, Giovanni Sollima, Bruno Cocset, Karine Georgian, and Eleonora Testelec. Kornelija performs on major stages in Lithuania and abroad and appears at prestigious festivals, as well as in music films and video clips.

She is the principal cellist of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, regularly performs as a soloist, and is a member of the Klaipėda Cello Quartet and the string quartet “Kopa”. She also creates and performs educational programs for children in a piano trio formation.

In addition to cello, Kornelija actively pursues singing. She is part of the successful project “White and Black”, which has been touring Lithuania’s largest cities for two years. She studied under Mindaugas Bačkus, earning her Bachelor's degree in 2020 (doc. E. Kulikauskas class) and a Master's degree in 2022 (doc. M. Bačkus class) at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Guoda Gedvilaitė

After completing her studies at the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts and at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (prof. Veronika Vitaitė), she continued her artistic development from 1995 at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main under prof. Lev Natochenny.

In 1995, she won the M.K. Čiurlionis International Competition for Pianists and Organists in Vilnius. She later received first prizes at other international competitions: N. Rubinstein (Paris, 1997), Chopin Gesellschaft (Hanover, 1998), Ennio Porrino (Cagliari, 2000), and Chamber Music Competition in Frankfurt (2002). She has performed throughout Europe, at the Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) in New York, and in Japan. She has taken part in the Gstaad Summer Music Festival (Switzerland), Meraner Wochen (Italy), Guil Durance Piano and Chamber Music Festival (France), Gidon Kremer’s Lockenhaus Festival (Austria), and more.
