The documentary film "Čiurlionis after Čiurlionis" explores the development of public narrative, evaluation, and perception of the artist in different eras. After M. K. Čiurlionis's death, the image of the lonely genius as the embodiment of the spirit of the nation, emerges.

Soon after, during Stalinism, attempts were made to stigmatise the artist's myth and eliminate it from national culture. Later still, in a clever application of Soviet cultural engineering, Čiurlionis was used for Soviet propaganda and self-representation, and those who tried to talk about the artist outside the ideological line were constantly forced to navigate between the political and conceptual grip. In the end, Lithuania's second independence finally restored the artist's natural functioning in the European cultural field.

Nevertheless, the myths and evaluations of Čiurlionis' work, which have been shaped by various eras, have a great influence on the way he is perceived today. At what point are we today in the process of creating and transmitting Čiurlionis' narrative?
