This summer, the Čiurlionis family orchard will once again resound with the music of the “60th Summer of Piano Music”! The piano music festival, which continues the tradition of musical sharing initiated by composer and painter M. K. Čiurlionis himself, holds special significance this year—not only because it celebrates its 60th edition, but also as we mark Čiurlionis’ 150th anniversary. The return to the Čiurlionis orchard in Druskininkai thus takes on a deeply meaningful tone.

The apple orchard of the Čiurlionis House-Museum in Druskininkai will once again welcome audiences to hear some of the most renowned Lithuanian pianists from across generations, each presenting their latest artistic explorations. One of the performers is pianist Rokas Valuntonis, a laureate of more than 20 international piano competitions.

Rokas Valuntonis began studying piano at the age of 7 at the Panevėžys Children's Music School under the guidance of teacher Gražina Beleckienė. In 2008, he graduated from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, and in 2014, from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he studied with Prof. Aleksandra Žvirblytė. He also pursued further studies with Prof. Eero Heinonen at the Sibelius Academy in Finland and with Prof. Eugen Indjic at La Schola Cantorum in France.

Rokas has performed in major Lithuanian concert halls, as well as in Spain, Denmark, Finland, France, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Austria, and Portugal. He has appeared as a soloist with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Panevėžys Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, Lund Symphony Orchestra, and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Juozas Domarkas, Lutz Köhler, Donatas Katkus, Olivier Grangean, Modestas Barkauskas, Roger Andersson, and Vidmantas Kapučinskas.

Rokas has been invited to international festivals in Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, and Japan. He has taken masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Jerome Lowenthal, Konstantin Papadaki, Denis Pascal, Petras Geniušas, and Mūza Rubackytė.

Valuntonis has won top prizes in more than 20 international piano competitions in Lithuania, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, and Germany. He is a recipient of the prestigious Queen Morta Award and has been honored with letters of appreciation from Lithuanian Presidents Valdas Adamkus and Dalia Grybauskaitė for his achievements in music.
