Experiential Installation „Chiaroscuro“ at M. K. Čiurlionis House | Culture Night 2023

„Chiaroscuro“ is an experiential installation that looks back to the inner states of human beings and the questions that arise. The title of the installation symbolizes a specific phenomenon in which light and darkness exist simultaneously and do not interfere with each other. The work is a reminder of “one’s own light”, the “carrying” of which is reflected in the creative work of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The artist’s works also reflect common human states of being and situations. We can experience this by listening to his music, observing his paintings, or reading his verbal lore texts.

This installation is an opportunity for the viewer to return to oneself, using.Čiurlionis’s work as a key to unlock the door to his inner world. What is my relationship with the unknown? With uncertainty? Am I able to bring light to myself or others on my journey? What is my relationship with darkness? All these questions are extremely important and close to the heart of the 21st-century person who is looking for ways to keep up with the pace of the environment, and who uses all sorts of devices and methods to create the illusion of control and knowledge. We are all looking for states in which we feel at ease and are able to hear ourselves, so during the installation, the audience is invited to explore and interact with objects in space.

The installation is by artist Deinora Rudėnaitė-Lietus
The opening of the exhibition/installation is on 16 June, 6 p.m. as part of the Culture Night program.
The exhibition/installation will be open in the basement of the M. K. Čiurlionis House from June 16 to August 27.
