Baltic Heartbeat. Music from Lithuania presented in Vermont, USA
Burlington Choral Society presents a musical program dedicated to Lithuania called “Baltic Heatbeat” – traditional, contemporary and sacred works from a country rich in song. On November 23 the chorus presents its third sonic trip to the Baltics and will sing a Lithuanian program, which also includes De Profundis by M. K. Ciurlionis.
The BCS has performed many of the greatest works of the choral repertory, including oratorios, masses and requiems of major classical composers, as well as less familiar works such as Mendelssohn’s St. Paul, Honegger’s King David, Britten’s St. Nicolas Cantata, and Handel’sSolomon. In 2015, we presented a program of Estonian music, and in spring 2018 a program of Latvian music, both concerts with song festival favorites and classical works.

Commemoration of M. K. Ciurlionis’ 144th Birthday in Moscow
September 27, 6 pm The 144th birthday of the Lithuanian composer and artist will be commemorated at the Moscow Foreign Literature Library, in the Atrium, where the bust of M. K. Ciurlionis is located.
During the evening, the musicians of the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra will perform the 1901 quartet of M. K. Čiurlionis.
Furthermore, there will also be an opportunity to see an exhibition of photographs taken by the artist in Anapa.

M. K. Čiurlionis The diptych PRELUDE. FUGUE will be presented in Fundacio Joan Miró in Barselona
This year on October 26 The diptych PRELUDE. FUGUE by M. K. Čiurlionis will be presented in exhibition „The Sound Art?“.
The Sound Art? exhibition offers a critical interrogation of this category in art and presents an overview of the sonorisation of the art object from the late nineteenth century until today.
The show examines how, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many visual artists worked references to sound and music into their pieces using a variety of strategies. In turn, it also addresses the influence of visual arts on contemporary musical practices, and considers how several composers and visual artists turned the music score into a space for experimentation and performativity. In addition, the exhibition explores the sound experience aimed at the body as a whole and delves into the conceptual aspects of silence. Last of all, it invites the visitor to question the validity of the term sound art through a selection of works produced over the past ten years by artists from several generations and disciplines.

M. K. Čiurlionis Triptych THE PRINCE’S JOURNEY presented in Spain
Triptych “The King’s Journey” by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis is currently presented in exhibition “Blue, the color of Modernism” in Spain.
“Blue, the color of Modernism” delves into the spirit of an era marked by the presence of blue and its connotations. It is a period, that of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, in which an aesthetic poetization based on the relationship between landscapes, natural phenomena and moods is constituted. This correspondence between nature and the self is part of the project of modernity, travels through symbolism and sees the birth of the cinematographer.
This exhibition first were held in CaixaForum – Sevilla from May 3 to August 25, 2019 and now it will move to Zaragoza and opens on September 26.
Exhibition organized by “la Caixa” with the collaboration of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia and of the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Genève.

The International M.K. Čiurlionis Music Festival in Palanga – from Čiurlionis to improvisations
The International M.K. Čiurlionis Music Festival was held on July 3–13 in Palanga.
PI “Klasika LT”, the organiser of the Festival, presented renowned performers from Denmark, Spain, Italy and Lithuania including pianists Eloisa Cascio, Sofya Gulyak, Petras Geniušas and Paulius Andersson, flutist Fernando Raña Barreiro, “Art Vio” String Quartet, tenor Mindaugas Jankauskas and soprano Vilija Kuprevičienė, cellist Alexander Ramm with pianist Darius Mažintas, young talents accompanied by the NationalM.K.Čiurlionis Art School orchestra led by Mantas Juozas Jauniškis, etc.

THE 17TH INTERNATIONAL ART FESTIVAL “DRUSKININKAI SUMMER WITH ČIURLIONIS”
The 17th International Art Festival “Druskininkai Summer with M. K. Čiurlionis”, organised by the Foundation for Lithuanian Musicians in collaboration with Druskininkai and Varėna municipalities, has travelled Čiurlionis’ trails from Varėna and Druskininkai since 2014. From now, it also joins the creative program of the “M. K. Čiurlionis National Cultural Route”.
The organisers of this musical journey, lasting three months, will offer over 50 events involving more than 200 performers of various genres from Lithuania, Italy, Israel, Denmark, France, Switzerland and Germany.
The music connoisseurs will be treated to the appearances of two orchestras, 5 ensembles, 21 vocalist, 16 organ music masters, 20 instrumentalists, and actors. In addition, the Festival will encompass Čiurlionis study week, violin music fest, violin master classes and conference “Promotion Practice of M. K. Čiurlionis’ Output in Lithuania and Abroad”, where researchers and nurturers of Čiurlionis output – musicologists, art experts, museologists as well as pedagogues of music and art – will share their insights.
The Festival will be held on June 6 – September 22 (Čiurlionis’ birthday) in Druskininkai and Varėna, in the region of Dzūkija.

THE 54-TH SUMMER OF PIANO MUSIC AT THE M.K. ČIURLIONIS MEMORIAL HOUSE MUSEUM IN DRUSKININKAI HAS OPENED
The 54th Summer of Piano Music concert series at the M. K. Čiurlionis Memorial House Museum in Druskininkai started on June 26. It is the longest existing festival of this type in Lithuania nurturing tradition of concerts in the apple orchard of the Čiurlionis Memorial Museum, launched by M. K. Čiurlionis himself over 100 years ago.
In 1965, this unique tradition was revived and has been fostered by today’s pianists, the prize winners of the Čiurlionis International Piano Competition.
Every summer on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, piano music fills the apple orchard through an open window, intertwining with light breeze and birdsongs, allowing the audience to experience the harmonious unity of music and nature.
Rich diversity and memorable conceptual programmes mark 2019 concert series. The audience will meet both today’s professors – the winners of the first, the then national, M.K. Čiurlionis competitions, and also winners of recent competitions.

The first “M. K. Čiurlionis National Cultural Route” connects seven cities of Lithuania
On May 24, 2019 the events in Varėna and Senoji Varėna set out the National cultural route “Čiurlionis Route” and the week of cultural topography “Čiurlionis’ Lithuania”.
,,Čiurlionis Route” links Varėna, Druskininkai, Vilnius, Kaunas, Rietavas, Plungė and Palanga, and is 487 km in length. National, governmental and municipal cultural institutions and non-governmental organisations operating in these cities invite to visit objects related to M. K. Čiurlionis’ life and creative activities, discover the memorial signs of M. K. Čiurlionis, take part in art and educational projects as well as cultural tourism.
The institutions participating in the “Čiurlionis Route”offer general events (thematic excursions, educational events, expositions, exhibitions, presentations) throughout the year, and special projects (music festivals, art weeks, plein air sessions, conferences, master classes, creative workshops, cultural meetings, etc.) on selected dates.

Collectors’ Corner: Čiurlionis
Sunday, March 25, at 8:00 pm Chacago’s radio station WFMT 98.7 will broadcast two hours’ programme about Čiurlionis. As the information bulletin reads: A painter and composer, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911) was a major force in the revival of Lithuanian art, culture, and language at the turn of the last century. He studied both composition and painting in warsaw, but soon returned to his native land to lead a Lithuania choir and to write music inspired by the nation’s folklore. Henry Fogel calls this unjustly neglected composer back to our attention by exploring Ciurionis’ piano, orchestral, and choral music.

Symphonic poem “In the Forest” of Čiurlionis performed by Azerbaijan National philharmonic orchestra
Lithuanian embassy in Azerbaijan organized a concert to commemorate Lithuanian independence day at the Baku state Philharmonic Hall on February 23.
The main guest of the concert was Lithuanian conductor, the music director of Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Robertas Šervenikas. Programme, performed by the State Symphony orchestra of Azerbaijan included Čiurlionis’ “In the Forest” and other works by Lithuanian and other European composers.
